AHC 2005 was designed as a “call to action” for men, women and children of African descent to support efforts to address the current health situation in Africa – a crisis of pandemic proportions. Women and children of the Continent, according to statistics, are the most affected, accounting for the greatest percentage of growth in illness, including HIV/AIDS.
African Hope holds this event, now in its second year, as a way to share the work they have been doing with other groups and foundations to bring attention to the problem and seek out creative solutions. Since their inception in 2003, they have reached thousands of people and distributed many thousands of pieces of educational material.
“Health concerns, near and far, affect us all,” said Tom Early, Executive Director of Health Plus. “We work hard to serve the people in our communities. Sometimes there are health concerns that don’t directly affect our neighborhoods, but indirectly affect the people who live there, whether by relation or by proxy. So, regardless of geography, Health Plus is proud to sponsor this event, locally and worldwide.”
