Brooklyn, NY - October 23, 2006 — Last week, at P.S. 24 on 4th Ave in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, managed care organization Health Plus, along with longtime partner Lutheran Medical Center [LMC], joined forces with Save Latin America, Inc., to improve the health and wellbeing of that community, hosting a Family Health Fair on the school grounds.

Families in attendance were awarded the opportunity to receive free health screenings, information about health management and the LMC healthcare system, as well as the chance to sign up for Health Plus.  Many of these families had never been to an event such as this before, and few visit the doctor regularly.  Some of the screenings included: cholesterol, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, vision, and depression.

Save Latin America, Inc., organizes as many as eight of these Family Health Fairs a year throughout New York and New Jersey.  Their objective is to keep the Latin American community here informed about important health issues, focusing on proper healthcare and promoting an overall healthy lifestyle.  For Brooklyn-based Health Plus, whose service area includes the five boroughs and Nassau County and which participates in nearly 5000 community events annually, this fair was another way to fulfill its mission to provide free and affordable healthcare to the communities it serves.

“Here at Health Plus, we do everything we can to promote our members’ health”, says Tom Early, Executive Director for Health Plus, “and our doors and arms are always open to partner with other organizations who serve our members and our communities. We’re proud to work with Save Latin America, Inc., and with our partner Lutheran Medical Center, to bring good health directly to our neighbors in Sunset Park.”
