Brooklyn, New York - August 24, 2007 — – Last night, after several days of unseasonably cold weather, the summer came back with gusto and so, too, did the crowds at Asser Levy Seaside Park in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, for Salsa by the Sea -- the last night of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz’s famed Summer Concert Series, once again sponsored by managed care organization Health Plus.

Salsa by the Sea is the most popular night of this free concert series that has been one of Brooklyn’s summer highlights for 29 years.  This year, as the closer of the season, Salsa by the Sea didn’t pull any punches, delighting crowds with performances by, Xtreme, NOTCH, and the incomparable Gilberto Santa Rosa, whose style, known as “Salsa Romantica”, has made him one of the most beloved Puerto Rican recording artists alive today.  Due to a delayed flight out of Chicago, Santa Rosa almost didn’t make it to the concert, but arrived at the last minute and played late into the night, soothing the restless, but loyal, crowd that had waited to catch a glimpse of the singing star.

“This annual concert has to be one of the best parts of my job,” said Ada Rodriguez, Chief Marketing Officer of Health Plus.  “I know that Marty works really hard each year to make sure that this series is always better than the last, because they just keep getting better and better.  But, Salsa by the sea, on a night like this, what could be better than that?  At Health Plus, we couldn’t be more proud to sponsor this event, and can’t wait to see who will perform next year.”

Gilberto Santa Rosa, one of Puerto Rico’s most beloved salsa singers, performs to a crowd of several thousand fans at ‘Salsa by the Sea’.

Ada Rodriguez, Chief Marketing Officer of Health Plus; Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz; and the Hon. Thomas White, of the City Council, stand together at Asser Levy Seaside Park in Brighton Beach.
