New York, New York - August 6, 2008 — Yesterday, as the summer humidity subsided,  if only for a day, police officers from throughout the five boroughs of New York City gathered in local communities to take part in the “National Night Out Against Crime” – now a quarter-century-long tradition. As always, managed care organization Health Plus was present to support the cause and to support the day’s activities, sponsoring over 30 events around town.

Each event was brimming with Health Plus staff and volunteers, representatives from the New York Police Department and the Fire Department of New York, as well as many top city officials, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, all working hard to ensure a safe and successful “night out.”

As part of the day’s activities, Health Plus was saluted by various NYPD precincts and community groups, and was presented with certificates of recognition for their continued support in the fight for a crime-free New York, including a Citation of Honor from New York State Assemblywoman Ellen Young.

“This is a very important event for all communities,” said Tom Early, Executive Director of Health Plus, “and I think it is even important for our city’s youth.  It’s not easy to be a kid in a big city, but hopefully events like this will make it easier for youngsters to understand the positive roles that city agencies, especially the NYPD, can have in their lives.  At Health Plus, we are proud to be a part of National Night Out, and look forward to being back as a sponsor again, next year.”
